Sharon Ann Chickering
Sharon Ann Chickering, 64, Stevens Point, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, in Chesapeake, Va., after a battle with
multiple myeloma.
A Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marathon.
A remembrance gathering for family and friends at the Granite Peak (Rib Mountain) Ski Area chalet will immediately
follow the service.
Contributions can be made to a memorial fund that will be established in her name that will benefit the activities
she loved and interscholastic athletics in lieu of flowers.
Mrs. Chickering was born April 7, 1940, in Fessenden, N.D., a daughter of the late Erwin and Alyce (Lies) Engbrecht.
She received a bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota and began her teaching career in Alaska and
Hawaii, then going to Gilman, Wis.
She was married to Doug Chickering on June 1, 1967, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Fessenden, N.D.
She remained active in both education and athletics throughout her years in Wisconsin while living in Gilman, Marathon
and Stevens Point.
She was widely known in national and international windsurfing circles and was a member of the Rib Mountain Ski
Patrol for 25 years.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Dawn (Dave) Knutzen, Olympia, Wash., and Jill Chickering, Portland,
Ore.; one son, Mark (Nicole), Wausau; three brothers, Erwin Engbrecht, North Dakota, James (Shirley) Engbrecht,
Winona, Minn., and David (Lois) Engbrecht, Great Falls, Mont.; and two grandchildren. |
