Nils Anderson

Nils Anderson, 94, North Haven, Stevens Point, a founder of Ellis Stone Construction Co., died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at St. Michael's Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Bob Barnes officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the services.

Memorials may be given to the Nils Anderson Scholarship Fund for Religious Studies.

Boston Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Anderson was born in Sweden on Feb. 24, 1907, a son of the late Jimmy and Adalina Anderson. He completed his schooling in Sweden, served in the Swedish Army and worked in the construction trade prior to coming to the United States in 1929.

He worked in New York City and the states of Maine and Washington before settling in central Wisconsin in the mid-1930s, where he and three fellow Swedish immigrants founded Ellis Stone Construction Co.

He was married to Mildred Reeves in June 1937 at Red Granite. She died in May 1974.

Ellis Stone was originally a stone quarry business and then developed into a construction company in the early 1950s. He retired from active participation in the company in the mid-1970s.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served on various boards of the church. He was a member of the Stevens Point Rotary Club and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award.

He was an honorary member of the Associated General Contractors of America-Wisconsin Chapter and previously served on its Board of Directors. He served on the apprenticeship committee for Stone Masons of Wisconsin.

He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Stevens Point and was Director Emeritus of M&I Midstate Bank. He was also a member of the Hot Shot Club and the Stevens Point Curling Club.

Survivors include one son, James (Patti) Anderson, Stevens Point; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Sneed; two sisters and one brother.
