Water Street will get temporary stop signs

Until traffic signals are installed at the intersection of Water Street and Riverview Avenue, supposedly later this month, temporary stop signs will go up on Water.

The Stevens Point Board of Public Works approved the signs to stop northbound and southbound traffic at Riverview, which is now Highway HH.

Jon Van Alstine, director of public works, wrote the board that the stop signs are needed to assist school children crossing at the intersection and should also help school buses exit the bus garage.

In other business, the board:

Accepted the bids of Merkel Electric Co. Inc., Marshfield, to install traffic signal replacement equipment for $20,400, of W.A. Roosevelt, Plover, to install lighting poles and transformer bases on Highway 10 for $47,702 and of Crescent Electric, Wisconsin Rapids, to install luminaires and lamps on Highway 10 for $10,965.24.
