Association schedules 'Community Days' in schools

The Stevens Point Parent Teacher Student Association has scheduled a series of "Community Days" in the Stevens Point area public schools in October to allow residents to learn more about the referendum.

The events will include guided tours of the schools and information about teaching strategies.

The PTSA is also organizing a series of town meetings to provide detailed information on the referendum to its community members.

The "Community Days" will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

They begin on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Plover/Whiting, Roosevelt and Bannach, with guided tours at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Plover/Whiting, 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Roosevelt and 9:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. at Bannach.

On Friday, Oct. 15, schools featured will be P.J. Jacobs Junior High School and Stevens Point Area Senior High School, and tours will be held at 1:30 p.m. at P.J. and 10 a.m. at SPASH.

On Monday, Oct. 18, school featured will be Washington, Kennedy, Ben Franklin and the Alternative School, with tours at all four at 10 a.m., plus an additional tour at Washington at 1:30 p.m.

The final "Community Day" will be on Thursday, Oct. 21, at McDill, Madison, Jackson, Jefferson and McKinley. The tours will be at 11:30 a.m. at McDill, 9:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Madison and 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at Jackson, Jefferson and McKinley.

Neighborhood town meetings will be held at the following schools with presenters representing parents, board members and district representatives:

Roosevelt - Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m. with Ed Morganroth, Mary Thurmaier and John Legro.

Bannach - Thursday, Oct. 14, at 6:30 p.m. with Julie Schneider, Mike O'Meara and Jerry Corgiat.

Washington - Monday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. with Judy Pflugradt, O'Meara and Bill Carlson.

Ben Franklin - Monday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. with Bill Hetler, Deb Wilz and Connie Negaard.

Jackson - Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. with Laurie Miller, a board member to be named later and Carl Coffman.

McDill - Thursday, Oct. 21, at noon with Michele Bjella, Barb Ruesch and Liz Fulton.

Jefferson - Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. with Carol Weston, Wilz and Pam Bork.
