Police reports

Stevens Point

F&M Bank, 5597 Highway 10 East, reported a man defrauded the bank of $3,293 between Feb. 25 and Friday, July 2, in a check kiting scheme, according to a Stevens Point Police Department report.

Police arrested a 22-year-old Stevens Point man for disorderly conduct at 7:42 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, after he grabbed a 17-year-old boy by the neck following a dispute over the boy's driving, a report said. The defendant alleged the victim was driving too fast and close to his stroller, which he felt threatened his son's safety. The defendant then chased the victim down on his motorcycle. The incident happened in the 2800 block of Rice Street.

Portage County

A black cat crossing a 22-year-old Amherst man's path started a stretch of bad luck.

The man was driving his motorcycle north on Highway K, one-quarter mile north of Highway TT, when he saw a black farm cat in his traffic lane, a Portage County Sheriff's Department report said. When he swerved to avoid hitting it, he entered the west ditch, hit a small stump and lost control of his motorcycle.

He left his motorcycle in the ditch and sought his own medical attention for scrapes on his legs, the report said. When he returned, he found the 1994 Kawasaki had been stolen. Estimated loss is $3,000.
