Two more County Board incumbents announce bids
The following persons have announced their candidacy for the Portage County Board of Supervisors:
District 16
Incumbent O. Philip Idsvoog has announced his re-election bid.
Idsvoog, 53, has served on the board since 1982. He has lived in the district for 29 years. He and his wife, Elaine,
have three children and live at 3541 Evergreen Court, Plover. He is the principal of P.J. Jacobs Junior High School.
He earned a doctorate in educational administration in 1990 and a specialist degree in educational administration
in 1986 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master's degree in history from UW-River Falls in 1974 and
a bachelor's degree in education from UW-River Falls in 1968.
Idsvoog serves as the first vice chairman of the County Board and served as chairman from 1988 to 1990. From 1974
to 1982, he served as a village of Plover trustee. He is member of the Plover Police and Fire Commission and Portage
County Business Council.
He is a member of the Elk's Club and Association of Wisconsin School Administrators. He is a Democrat.
In his own words:
"Counties in Wisconsin continue to be faced with having to increase spending and taxes because they are required
by the state to provide more public services that are not state funded. As chairperson of the Personnel Committee
and a member of the Finance and Ethics committees I believe I have the experience and resolve necessary to make
tough decisions, be an advocate for critical need services, be fair minded at the bargaining table and help develop
fiscally responsible budgets.
I was and continue to be a strong advocate for the development of the Portage County Business Park and believe
the attraction of new businesses to the county will stimulate future economic growth. Difficult issues currently
facing the county that require objective and fair minded thinking include jail expansion, health insurance rates,
waste disposal, highway corridors and future expansion plans for the Lincoln Center."
District 23
Incumbent James Zdroik has announced
his re-election bid.
Zdroik, 41, has served on the County Board since 1997. He and his wife, JoAnn, live at 2981 N. Lakeview Road, Rosholt,
and have three children. He has lived in the district for 41 years. He works for Copps Corporation.
He is a member of the Planning and Zoning, Health Care Center and Personnel committees. He has served on the Rosholt
School Board for 17 years and is now its vice president.
Zdroik is a member of St. Adalbert Church. He lists no political affiliation.
In his own words:
"I'd like to finish several items of importance to the county. First getting the health insurance issue resolved
with the counties retired and current employees completed, and the second being a favorable site for enlarging
the current jail or building at an off site location - or even taking another look at the joint effort with Wood
Co." |
