Common council president seeks another term as city alderman
Alderman Jack Barr, 6th Ward, will run again for the Stevens Point Common Council.
Barr, 70, has been on the council for four two-year terms, including three years as president of the council. He
is chairman of the city Finance Committee and serves on the Board of Public Works and Personnel Committee. He is
also the council's liaison to the Police and Fire Commission.
Before election as an alderman, he served on the Board of Review for 14 years and the Police and Fire Commission
for two years.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and retired from a sales position at Sentry Insurance. He
served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He and his wife, Beverly, live at 3100 Heffron St. and have two grown children. He has been a city resident since
1965 and a ward resident since 1970.
Barr said the top priority of the city is budgeting. "As a taxpayer, I'm very appreciative of the mayor, his
staff and the city department heads for once again holding the tax levy at a zero rate increase while providing
and even increasing the services that make our city the desirable community that it is."
He said his service to the city during the last 24 years is indicative of his interest in the community and his
background in city government. |
