Freshman from Oshkosh wins year of UW-SP tuition

A freshman elementary education major at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has won the grand prize in the university's fifth annual Tuition/Debt Reduction Raffle. Winners were chosen on June 23 at a freshman orientation session.

Darcy Lang Oshkosh, won a one-year full-tuition package worth about $3,100. Winners of the raffle can use the prize to pay current tuition costs or apply the money to debt incurred during their education at UW-SP.

Lang was one of 886 people who purchased tickets for the raffle sponsored by the UW-SP Alumni Association. Proceeds from ticket sales go toward scholarships and other academic support during the school year.

Ron Nolting, Preston, Iowa, won the first prize, a full year of the university's meal plan worth about $1,250. He is a freshman business administration major. Second prize went to Andrew Martin, Stoughton. A senior physical education major, he won a semester meal plan at the university worth about $600. Tracy Nolton, Eagle River, a freshman, won a weekend getaway.

Winning a $100 certificate each for the University Bookstore were Mikhail Salienko, 1390 NorthPoint Drive, a sophomore business administration major from Latvia; Fred Bartz, Lodi; Candace Becker, Sparta; Nancy Gerber, Cameron; Stephen Mancl, Wisconsin Rapids, a freshman computer information systems major; Tony Wester, Plymouth, a junior paper science major; and Fred Bartman, Kaukauna, a freshman exceptional education major.
