Crime Stoppers looks at truck theft
Portage County Crime Stoppers seeks your assistance in finding whoever stole a 1991 model Mack flatbed truck that
was pulling a 1990 model Big John tilt-bed trailer.
On Monday, June 7, the owner of the missing truck parked his rig in the south parking lot of the Stevens Point
Holiday Inn, said deputy Jack Mrozinski. He placed the vehicle keys up above the visor and left the vehicle unlocked.
When he returned to his rig at about 7 a.m. the next morning, he discovered it was missing.
When Stevens Point police arrived, they decided that whoever stole his truck had no experience at driving this
type of a vehicle because they did not release the truck's air brakes when they left, Mrozinski said. This caused
the truck and trailer to leave long black tire marks on the parking lot.
Later that morning, the Portage County Sheriff's Department notified the city police that the missing truck and
trailer had been found in the woods just off Wigwam Road in the northeast corner of Portage County, Mrozinski said.
Wigwam Road is located off Highway 49 in the town of Alban just south of the Marathon County line.
