City rejects Clark Street light bids

The Stevens Point Board of Public Works rejected all four bids for street lights along Clark Street from W. Wilson Ave. to Division Street Monday night.

The bids for the lights, part of the first phase of reconstruction of Highway 10 through the city, revealed Roosevelt Co. bidding on different type of street lights than the others.

Board members felt other firms should be offered the opportunity to bid on similar equipment so they rejected the bids and will ask for bids to be submitted by next month.

Mayor Gary Wescott said the board could make a recommendation on the bids at its regular meeting during the second week of September and then the council could hold a special meeting after the board's recommendation because aldermen will be present for other committee meetings that night.

Jon Van Alstine, public works director, said the delay in accepting the bids will probably mean the lights wouldn't be available for installation until December.
