Project Fresh Start to distribute school supplies to area children

Project Fresh Start, a program targeted to collect school supplies and distribute them to area children in need in kindergarten through sixth grade, is under way in Portage County.

The United Way Volunteer Center and the Portage County Health and Human Services Department, sponsors of the program, have compiled a list of various items needed.

School supplies on the list include black and blue ballpoint pens, book bags or backpacks, calculators, colored pencils, crayons, pen and ink erasers, fine line black markers, school glue or glue sticks, index cards, large pencil pouches with zippers, wideline loose leaf notebook paper, wideline spiral notebooks, paperback dictionaries, pencil sharpeners, pocket folders, red marking pens and pencils, rulers, school boxes, scissors and watercolor markers.

In addition to those supplies, the program also seeks toothpaste, tooth brushes, shampoo, conditioner, brushes and combs.

For further information, contact Barb Hunt, director of the volunteer center, at 341-6740.
