Kiefer will not serve on School Board
Editor's Note: Kip Kiefer, elected to a two-year term on the Stevens
Point Area Board of Education in the April 2 election, won't be taking office because of a change in jobs. The
board will now name someone to fill his vacancy. Below is his letter with the announcement.
To the Editor:
It is with deepest regret that I informed School Board President Mary Thurmaier that I am unable to take to oath
of office on April 22 with the other new School Board members. On April 10 I was offered and accepted a position
with a local firm, and I feel that I am not capable of serving two new employers in the fashion they truly deserve.
I intend to remain a strong advocate for quality education and improved communication within the district. I have
offered my services to the board on an ad hoc basis as a means of furthering those goals.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to Mary Thurmaier and all the board members for their kind words and support, and
I encourage all of you to support their efforts. They truly have a deep and sincere concern for the children of
the Stevens Point School District.
This letter would not be complete without a sincere "thank you" to the voters of the district. You have
made your desires known, and I only wish I were in a position to translate those desires into reality. Your support
was genuine, and that is a wonderful and humbling thing. Thank you all, and please keep supporting policies and
people that help turn out creative, enthusiastic, well-adjusted and well-educated young adults.
Thank you.
