Home Depot looks at possible Stevens Point sites
Years of rumors about Home Depot, a giant among building materials stores,
looking for a site in Portage County are true.
Parents of students at Bannach School received a letter recently from the Bannach School PTO about Home Depot looking
at construction of a store near the school.
The letter says Home Depot was considering a site east of Target and behind Tires Plus, with access to the site
coming from an extension of either Sandy Lane or Windy Drive to route traffic from Highway 10 to the store.
John Gardner, Stevens Point development director, said city officials had been contacted about an idea to put the
store on the site in the town of Hull and whether the city would support annexation of the property.
Gardner said city officials raised objections but never took action because a formal proposal hasn't been made.
He said the city had concerns about the impact on traffic, the impact on houses to the north and east of the site
and how the development would impact the school and neighborhood.
The PTO raised concerns about the safety of children going to and from school and asked parents to voice their
opinions to city officials and others.
