FIND YOUR DETOUR ROUTE: Area residents
should select their detour route for Highway 10 between Soo Marie and Minnesota avenues because that section of
road is scheduled to close Monday, April 2.
The section is slated to be closed until late June.

SCOUTING FOR FOOD SCHEDULED MARCH 31, APRIL
7: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorers, Venturers and adult leaders in Portage
County will be "Scouting for Food" in their communities on Saturdays, March 31 and April 7.
The Scouts will hang empty bags on residents' door on March 31 and return one week
later to collect donated nonperishable food items on April 7.
The food will be distributed through local agencies to families and individuals
who need it. Individuals who wish to donate food should place the items in the bag and hang it outside their door
before 9 a.m. on April 7.
Last year, area scouts collected more than 57 tons of food for needy residents
living in the 13 northern and central Wisconsin counties served by the Samoset Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Since the program began in 1988, area Scouts have distributed more than 715 tons of food.

ICE FISHING CONTINUES: Spring is here, the calendar says, but ice fishing isn't over. But "watch it,"
advises Conservation Warden Barry Meister.
People are fishing on many lakes and on the Wisconsin River backwaters, he said,
though the ice is becoming unsafe. "You have to be very careful," said Meister.

ROBBERY SUSPECT NABBED: Stevens Point
Police Department officers took a man into custody Tuesday following a strong-armed robbery Monday, a report said.
At about 11:40 a.m. Monday, he allegedly entered the home of an acquaintance in the 600 block of Union Street,
assaulted the resident and took $300.

DEER HERD THINNED: Sixty deer in the
village of Plover and 21 deer in the village of Whiting were harvested this winter by professional sharpshooters
hired to thin the villages' large deer herds. The deer were harvested under the authority of Department of Natural
Resources permits between January and early March. The venison was donated to area food pantries.

BLOOD DONOR LEVELS: During recent blood
drives at Sentry and St. Paul's United Methodist church, several people reached new donor levels.
George Check reached 17 gallons, Randy Hermes, 12 gallons; Linda Torgeson, 11 gallons;
Linda Konkol, nine gallons; Sara Rogers and Mark Kluck, six gallons; Frank Podach, five gallons;
Esther Whitman, four gallons; Elaine Cyan and Tamara Macklem, three gallons; Edward
Grubba, Dawn Nehrbass, Cynthia Peters, Mary Groholski and Ron Dufresne, two gallons; and Ron Chapman, Will Stites
and Paul Bartlett, one gallon.
First-time donors included Fred Buehler, Catherine Carapezza, Marilu Daniels, Shari
Laskowski, David and Mae Nachman, Sharon Noth, Norbert Ostrowski, Don Pohl, Pam Slagowski, Nancy Steinback, Orville
Stemen, Scott Sybeldon, Ron Tepp, Shirley and Ronald Thoms, Pat McVeigh and Maynard Patoka.
The next Community Blood Drive will be May 24 and 25 at St. Paul's United Methodist
Church. An individual may donate blood every 56 days.

CITY CANVASSING COMMITTEE: The city
of Stevens Point Canvassing Committee will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, in the city conference room of the
County-City Building to review results of the April 3 election.

County Canvassing Committee will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 5, in conference room D of the County-City Building
to review results of the April 3 election.

DOG LICENSE RENEWAL FEES: Fees for dog
license renewals in Stevens Point will increase $5 after Sunday, April 1. The fees for the licenses are due by
4 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the city treasurer's office in the County-City Building.
Payments may also be placed in the night depository at the Strongs Avenue entrance
of the County-City Building.
