Merriam will be Plover village administrator

The village of Plover has a new village administrator.

The village announced this week that Oliver Merriam, the city manager for Hiawatha, Iowa, has been hired for the position. He will begin his duties on Monday, June 19.

He succeeds Dan Mahoney who resigned in January to accept a position with the Rettler Corp., 3317 Business Park Road.

Merriam received a bachelor's degree from Beloit College and a master's degree from Wharton School of Business and Finance at the University of Pennsylvania.

He has been at Hiawatha, a city of 5,600, since 1995. He supervised 27 employees and managed a $5 million budget.

Prior to that he was director of chapter and institute services for the American Public Works Association in Chicago, Ill., and Kansas City, Mo.; city manager of Oak Park, Mich.; assistant to the county manager for Arlington County in the Arlington, Va.; city manager of North Miami Beach, Fla.; assistant city manager for Saginaw, Mich.; and administrative assistant for the city of Salem, Ore.
