Point woman will celebrate 90th birthday
Catherine Marie Roman, Stevens Point, will celebrate her 90th birthday on Sunday, Sept. 5.
She was born Sept. 5, 1909, the first child of George and Zita Turrish. She grew up on the Turrish potato farm
in the town of Buena Vista and left the farm to teach first and second grade in the Mattoon School District.
At Mattoon, she met her future husband, Francis L. Roman, who became principal of Marathon High School.
They had four children, George (Virginia), Fran T. (Bobbie), David (Dori), all of Stevens Point, and Marilyn (Tom)
Helgestad, Wisconsin Rapids. She has 26 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her children report she is known for her pie-baking, crossword puzzles and weekly bridge tricks. |
