Presentation focuses on disorder
A presentation on oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, in the
school library at Plover/Whiting Elementary School.
The disorder is associated with a child who frequently refuses to do what is asked, actively defies adult requests
or rules, has frequent anger outbursts and is often angry or resentful.
Kim Tuescher, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and author of "School Based Strategies
for Children with Common Psychological Disorders," will be the featured speaker.
The program will give basic information regarding symptoms discussion of etiology (why some children might have
ODD), examples to help understand issues of ODD strategies to help children manage ODD and time for questions
and interaction.
Child care for children 4-12 is available on a first-come basis through the YMCA-Great Escape Staff. Parents interested
in child care must register by Wednesday Sept. 22, by calling 345-5661 and leaving name, phone number and name
and age of children requiring care during the presentation. |
