St. Vincent de Paul board gives grant to Wellness Program

The Board of Directors for the St. Vincent de Paul Organization recently gave a grant of $2,000 to the Portage County Financial Wellness Program.

Funds for the grant are available through the operation of the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, 2700 Post Road, Plover. All profits from the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store are returned to the Portage County community through its grant program for local charitable and care-giving organizations.

Portage County Financial Wellness provides training for volunteer counselors who help Portage County residents on an ongoing basis. The counselors aid families and individuals in determining income and expenses, developing spending plans, addressing credit and debt problems and accessing other community resources.

For more information regarding Portage County Financial Wellness contact Lois Sadogierski, Financial Wellness coordinator, at the University of Wisconsin-Extension Office, 346-1316.

The mission of St. Vincent de Paul Organization is to assist low-income people. During the first half of 1999, St. Vincent de Paul gave out more than $3,000 in free merchandise to low-income families and individuals in need.

The St. Vincent de Paul is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Donations are accepted from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
