SPACS honors teachers, staff at annual Award Dinner

The Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools held their 13th annual Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Sky Club in Plover, recognizing teachers and staff from throughout the SPACS system for their efforts and achievements in a number of categories, including grant recipients and award winners.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the years of service awards and four major awards for SPACS employees.

Deb Spang, 8th grade teacher at St. Peter Middle School, was recognized as being the recipient of the Miriam R. Farrell, National Catholic Education Association Distinguished Teacher Award. Only 12 teachers throughout the United States are selected for this award each year.

Jane Cotter was selected as the recipient of the Holy Family Award. This award goes to an employee who not only has an impact on students, but on families as well. Cotter is the coordinator of the SPACS childcare program. Jane has played a key role in the development and expansion of the Childcare Center.

Ann Molski, a first grade teacher at St. Stanislaus School, was selected for the Elizabeth Anne Seton Outstanding Educator Award. This award is given to a teacher who best exemplifies the spirit of Seton, who started the first Catholic school in the United States. It recognizes a teacher who is exemplary in many areas, including creativity, involvement of parents and high quality education. Molski has developed many creative techniques in her classroom and has been a leader in school and system activities.

Joe Fischer, who works in the maintenance department at Pacelli High School, received the Mother Teresa Outstanding Service Award. This award goes to an individual who has gone far beyond expectations for the students and families of SPACS. He was recognized for reaching out to all who use Pacelli as well as going beyond expectations in his work efforts.

The following faculty and staff were recognized with Years of Service Awards:

Thirty Years - Jean Gerstl.
Twenty-five Years - Sr. Sue Bunde and Guy Gehrman.
Twenty Years - Janet Nugent and Gregg Hansel.
Fifteen Years - Mike Kosobucki and Barb Letto.
Ten Years - Terri Stilson and Michele Tippel.
Five Years - Penny Follensbee, Bob Gramowski, Terry Owens, Wayne Sankey, Marian Trzebiatowski, Erin Hetzer, Jennifer Jakusz, Ellen Lopas, Michelle Wojciehoski and Barb Zuiker.
