Four UW-SP students awarded 2001 Spud Bowl Scholarships

Four students from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point have been selected to receive the 2001 Spud Bowl Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each for the 2001-2002 academic year.

This year's recipients include two incoming students, Nathan Miller and Robyn Arttus, and two undergraduates, Beth Kolbeck and Alanna Koshollek.

Miller is a 2001 graduate of Rosholt High School. He is a freshman at UW-SP, majoring in biology. He hopes to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. He has been employed at the Miller Angus Farm for the past four years, assisting his mother and sister in the family farm operation. He has been actively involved in the Rosholt Pioneers 4-H Club and Rosholt FFA Chapter.

Arttus is a 2001 graduate of Stevens Point Area Senior High School. She is majoring in business at UW-SP, where she is a freshman this fall. She has been employed at Point Plus Credit Union since 1999, where she has helped local farmers with their financial needs. She is the daughter of Ruth and Dale Bowe.

Kolbeck is a 1999 graduate of Auburndale High School. She is currently enrolled at UW-SP, majoring in mathematics for secondary education. She has been a mathematics student aide and has organized Central Wisconsin's Math League (CWML). She has worked in the UW-SP Mathematics Department as a tutor and also in text rental.

Koshollek is a 1999 graduate of Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School. She is currently enrolled at UW-SP as a general resource management/land use planning major. She is involved in Women in Natural Resources, hall government and has worked at the Material Recovery Facility in Plover and Majestic Farms Greenhouse in Hatley. She is the daughter of Jack and Brenda Koshollek of Hatley.

The scholarships are made possible from the proceeds of the 2000 Spud Bowl. Contributions are received from local and state agri-businesses and a variety of other organizations in support of the event. During the past 94 years, more than $48,000 in Spud Bowl scholarships has been awarded to 56 individuals.
