Santa will visit workshop in park

Santa's Workshop at Goerke Park is open for the holiday season, and Santa Claus will greet visitors on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15.

The workshop in the Parker Memorial Building on Main Street is sponsored by the Stevens Point Parks and Recreation Department, and department employees (Santa's elves) have prepared the building with an array of decorative lighting, Christmas trees and candy canes.

Santa Claus will visit with area children from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.

The Parker building was the first building constructed in Goerke Park for athletic purposes and use and was dedicated in the memory of Mrs. Emma Parker by her daughter, Laura Mae Corrigan who donated $1,000 for its construction to help Stevens Point athletes.

The building, commonly known as the Goerke Park ice skating warming house, has a variety of animated push-button Christmas toys donated for children's entertainment by area merchants at the ShopKo Department Stores and Gepetto's Workshop. Signs for the workshop are provided by Modern Signs of Stevens Point.
