| Pacelli will host Second Annual Homeless Awareness Night The Second Annual Homeless Awareness Night will be held Friday, Nov. 10, at Pacelli High School. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and last until 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Pacelli practice field on Prentice Street behind the school. The cost is $5 per person or $10 per family. All money received from the participation fee is donated to "Place of Peace," the Catholic Worker House in Stevens Point. The event is designed as a way for students to become more mindful of the people in the nation who have less than basic necessities fulfilled by putting themselves in their shoes and spending the night outside. To make the experience more realistic, participants are encouraged to bring only what they can carry to keep themselves warm. A pillow is allowed and all bags and packs will be checked before students are allowed to settle in for the night. All students choosing to bring boxes to sleep in are responsible for taking them home the next morning. As in homeless shelters, all sleeping areas will have men and women separated with the exceptions of families who are attending. Any student younger than a ninth-grader must have an adult accompany them or their group for the night. A hot breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. in the Pacelli cafeteria, courtesy of donations and the Pacelli Home and School Association. Persons willing to help with providing food donations for breakfast or in serving it, are asked to contact Lorie Liss at Pacelli. Hot chocolate and hot coffee will be available in the school lobby all night, and restrooms will be open. Adult supervision will be provided all night to ensure safety. For more information or to sign up a group or family please call Pacelli at 341-2442 or e-mail at lliss@spacs.kl2.wi.us. Sign up must be completed by Tuesday, Nov. 7. |
