The Portage County Department on Aging Resource Center offers senior center classes and activities in addition to its one-stop shopping source about aging services for older adults, their families and caregivers. The following will take place at Lincoln Center, 1519 Water St., unless otherwise noted. For information call 346-1401.

Department on Aging Benefit Specialist Jim Rasmussen will provide some advice on what to look for when selecting a policy which will best meet your needs and budget in "Understanding Medicare Supplement Insurance" on Monday at 1 p.m.

The Parkinson's Support Group will meet Tuesday at 1 p.m. The topic will be self-assessment of Parkinson's. People with Parkinson's, caregivers, family members and anyone interested is welcome to attend. The group is co-sponsored by the Department on Aging and the Wisconsin Parkinson Association. Jackie and Bill Hoppen are the coordinators.

A tour of the Rosholt Lions Camp will be at "Get to the Point"" on Friday. Participants will gather for coffee and carpooling at Lincoln Center at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is necessary.

The "Genealogy on the Internet" classes on Sept. 28 and Oct. 12 are filled, but people who were too late to register should call Lincoln Center to express their interest-additional classes may be added.

Our Fellow Immigrants on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m. will be on Stevens Point's sister cities in Russia, Poland and Nicaragua. Mae Kobishop will speak about Gulcz, Poland; Dan Sivek on Esteli, Nicaragua; and Mary Thurmaier on Rostov-Valecki, Russia. There will be a display on each city and also a potluck dinner, so be sure to bring a dish to pass. Take this opportunity to learn more about the history, culture, music, dress and cuisine of our neighbors. Ruth Steffen is the coordinator.

Walk in the shelter of the CenterPoint MarketPlace to keep fit on weekdays beginning at 7 a.m. starting Oct. 4. New members are always welcome in the Lincoln Center/CenterPoint Walking Club. and should register with coordinator Ed Wachtendonk between 7:30 and 9 a.m. Cost is $1 to join.

Thursday, Oct. 7, is National Depression Screening Day. The Department on Aging will offer a free depression screening program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. which includes an educational presentation, an anonymous written screening test and an opportunity to confidentially review the results of your screening test with a clinician.

Rose Cobb of Mid-State Technical College will teach a series in beginning quilting on Wednesdays, Oct. 6-27, at 1 p.m. Cost is $12.47 for people age 62 and over or $27.28 for under 62. Pre-registration is required.
