Mayoral appointees approved to Stevens Point committees
Alderman Jack Barr, District 6,
was elected president of the Stevens Point Common Council on Tuesday, April 20. He succeeds Mike Phillips, District
10, who lost a bid for re-election on April 6.
Barr polled six votes from the 11 aldermen to defeat David Sowieja, who had three, and Jerry Moore, who had two.
Barr has served as president in the past, most recently from 2000-2001.
Newly elected aldermen Mike Wiza, 718 Franklin St., and Norman Barber, 2400 Church St., took office for the first
time. Wiza succeeds Jo Ellen Seiser, while Barber replaces Phillips.
The Council accepted the following committee assignments for aldermen from Mayor Gary Wescott:
Board of Public Works: Comptroller/Treasurer John J. Schlice, Barr; Hans Walther, Bernice E. Sevenich, David Sowieja,
Randal E. Stroik and Mayor Wescott, chair.
Finance Committee: Elbert J. Rackow, Marge Molski, Hans Walther, Jerry R. Moore and Barr, chair.
Public Protection Committee: Sevenich, Sowieja, Lynn Markham, Wiza and Rackow, chair.
