Kudos to residents Congratulations Portage County residents. You certainly deserve it. Your response to the 1999 fund drive for the United Way of Portage County is outstanding. The goal of $1.425 million was 5.1 percent more than the previous year, but residents came through, met the goal and then exceeded it. The drive's motto of "Build a Caring Community" certainly fit. But the "Caring Community" tag fits more than the United Way campaign. Residents have given generously to other fund drives such as the Holiday Basket Project, Operation Bootstrap, Salvation Army and Share Our Surplus. Kudos to you, Portage County residents.
