Inside the Portage County Line

By GENE KEMMETER
of The Gazette

Portage County's first contestant to reach the ABC Television show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" didn't get beyond the "Fastest Finger Question" on Thursday, May 18.

Elizabeth Avery of Stevens Point got three opportunities to get into the "hot seat" on the program, missing on the first two questions to put in order.
On the third question, putting child television characters in chronological order, from first to last, she correctly answered Beaver Cleaver, Danny Partridge, Willie Bradford and Malcolm. But her time trailed the 5.84 seconds of two others, who tied for a chance at the "hot seat," the first time that has happened on the program.

While she got beyond the contestant stage, she was part of the 100th episode of the show, which has become a ratings leader.
