A few weeks ago a friend of mine asked if I was “map-savvy.” My first response to that question was a bit of amusement, and it got me thinking. I guess I’ve never really thought about the fact that understanding maps might be an actual skill. After all, I’ve always had a thing for maps. You might even call it a love of maps. I mean, what’s not to love?
The way they are so functional, jammed with so much information, all those little symbols representing so many different things. They’re just so efficient and so doggone … pretty.
Maps, pretty? Well, for a person who’s in love with graphics and design, they sure are. My love for maps started at a very young age. When I was a kid, my parents and I would take summer trips with our little travel trailer. But there was a slight problem.
