Not long ago, friends and acquaintances gathered to honor Bob and Mary Williams, and … “The Green Chair.”
That may sound a bit strange to you, but the “Green Chair” has had a noteworthy role in the lives and fortunes of a number of Stevens Point people.
The chair – when new – arrived at the 18th floor office of the uncle of Bob Williams sometime in the 1930s. Bob, you may know, is retired now, but still active in several efforts. As a partner in Menzel-Williams, later Idea Associates, Bob had a significant hand in the gubernatorial campaign of Lee Dreyfus in 1978. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself.
John Noel now has possession of the leather-covered Green Chair that had a role in his success. So he and his wife, Patty, along with Bob and Mary Williams decided it was in order to fete the Green Chair by inviting a group of people over for a party to celebrate the piece of furniture.
