I sat on the kennel deck with a group of family and friends, and we admired the numerous flowers blooming in our prairie grass field. We talked and watched as butterflies, bees and hummingbirds sucked nectar and spread pollen. Bluebirds and flycatchers perched atop mullein plants and waited patiently to pluck the next insect to fly by. Swallows patrolled the sky above.
“When was the last time you saw a meadowlark in your field?” someone asked. “As far as that goes, how about a bobolink?”
