A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Steven Olson officiating. Interment will be in Forest Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be at the Boston Funeral Home in Stevens Point from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 29, and at the church from 10 a.m. Monday until the service.
Mr. Pesanka was born March 11, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., a son of the late Edward and Cecilia (Kloss) Pesanka. In 1961 his family moved to Wisconsin. He graduated from Marathon High School in 1965 and subsequently, attended North Central Technical College. He received an associate degree in computer programming.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army Feb. 13, 1968. During his time of service, he received a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Bronze Star, a Combat Infantryman Badge and an Army Commendation Medal. He was honorably discharged Sept. 17, 1969.
Following military service, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and majored in theater arts. After graduating in 1973, he became employed at Sentry Insurance. He began as a scheduler in the computer room and advanced accordingly after many years of service. He retired from Sentry in September 2003 as a senior analyst programmer.
He later returned to work at St. Vincent de Paul Community Center.
He was married to Judith Sorenson Sept. 9, 1972, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson.
He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the Church Council, and the Building and Grounds Committee.
He sang with the barbershoppers in Northern Gateway Chorus and Regal Blend Quartet.
Survivors include his wife, Judy, Plover; two sons, Geoff, Phoenix, Ariz., and Ryan (fiancée Elizabeth), Fort Mill, S.C.; and two siblings, Tom (Angie), Stevens Point, and Herb (Sue) Hassel, Wausau.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Tanya.
