Bessie M. Jorgensen, 100, Stevens Point, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Portage County Health Care Center.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, with the Rev. Cathy J.N. Weigand officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery in Waupaca.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon Tuesday until the service.
Mrs. Jorgensen was born Oct. 3, 1913, in the town of Lanark in Portage County, a daughter of the late John and Agnes (Bucknell) Hessey.
She attended Waupaca and Mosinee high schools and graduated from Selan’s School of Beauty in Chicago, Ill., in 1937. She later attended the Virginia Farrel Academy in Detroit where she received a special hair stylist license.
For many years she owned and operated beauty salons in Manawa and Waupaca. She was a charter member of the Chain O’ Lakes Hairdresser Association and served as president, secretary and treasurer. She was also involved in state committees.
She was married to Lloyd K. Jorgensen March 7, 1936, in Chicago, Ill. He died Oct. 16, 1981.
She was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Waupaca and was a member and past officer of the Waupaca Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem Shrine, and a member of the Stevens Point Eastern Star Chapter.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hessey; and three sisters, Gladys Dziak, Thelma Gotchy and Lois Weed.
