During the past few weeks, we’ve celebrated a memorable event of sorts – the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ first appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show” on CBS.
A half-century ago, the mop-tops elicited constant screams from their female fans, and that always made me wonder how these teenagers ever heard their heartthrobs singing. I guess it didn’t matter – all they had to do was see the English quartet to get their hormones wiggling.
I was doing disk jockey work 50 years ago, and enjoyed playing Beatles music on the air.
Stevens Point is a “small market” in the radio business, and in those days the record companies didn’t go out of their way to service small market stations with their latest releases.
But around that time, I succeeded in making our operation a “reporting station” to the weekly Gavin Report, a highly-respected music publication in the recording industry.
