Sue Bates Lau, 78, Bloomington, Ill., a former Stevens Point resident, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Heritage Manor in Bloomington, Ill.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Central Illinois.

Mrs. Lau was born Aug. 3, 1935, in Fremont, Ohio, a daughter of the late Dr. Lester and Pauline Bates. She graduated from Ross High School in 1953.
She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Hiram College in 1957.
She was married to John C. Lau June 15, 1957, in Fremont, Ohio. He died Dec. 16, 2009.
She taught elementary school in Stevens Point, Wis., Ohio and New York, as she followed her husband’s career through those states as well as Tennessee, Michigan and Illinois.
Survivors include three daughters, Lori (Jim) Grzybowski, Glendale, Wis., Christie, Bloomington, Ill., and Jenny (Michael) Praytor, St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was also preceded in death by one sister.
