Margaret F. “Sally” Prokop, 81, Stevens Point, a former resident of Hixton, died at her home Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, after a battle with cancer.
A Mass in her name will be held Sunday, Feb. 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Interment will be at 2 p.m. March 28 at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial, two miles south of Spooner on Highway 53, with full military honors conducted by the United States Air Force.

Mrs. Prokop was born May 21, 1932, in L’Anse, Mich., a daughter of the late Eugene and Alice Racette. She graduated from L’Anse High School in 1950 and graduated from secretarial school in Appleton in 1951.
She joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base (AFB) in Illinois.
She was married to Joseph E. Prokop Sept. 1, 1956, at Chanute AFB in Illinois. He preceded her in death.
She rose to the rank of staff sergeant during her time in the Air Force before her honorable discharge.
The family was stationed at many bases throughout her husband’s military career, where she served as an Avon representative and was involved in various business ventures.
After her husband’s retirement from the Air Force in 1972, they moved to Hixton, where they resided until 1989.
They then sold their home and traveled throughout the country, selling products at various military bases until the time of his death.
She moved to Black River Falls for five years and then moved to Stevens Point to be closer to family.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph (Kass), Rochester, N.Y., and Edward (Terri), Stevens Point; two daughters, Valerie (Chris) Stogner, Jacksonville, Fla., and Alice (Donald) Lessig, Mullica Hill, N.J.; two brothers, Tom (Anna) Racette, Appleton, and Fritz (Judy) Racette, Escanaba; two sisters, Sandy (Floyd) Roberts, Mankato, Minn., and Phillis Dompier, Gaylord, Mich.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Faith Manning; and one brother, Patrick Racette.
