Gary L. Pingel, 65, Phillips, a former Stevens Point resident, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at his home.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pingel was born Feb. 21, 1948, in Fond du Lac, a son of the late Wilber and Verna (Mittlestadt) Pingel. He spent his early life and schooling in Marshfield and Stevens Point. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point in the Class of 1966.
He attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he majored in business administration. While attending the university he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
He was married to Sheryl McWeeny April 19, 1970, in Stevens Point.
He was employed as a grocery store manager in stores in Stevens Point, Madison, Fort Atkinson, Antigo, Phillips, Prentice and Tomahawk prior to his retirement.
He was an avid bowler, bowling three 700 series.
Survivors include his wife, Phillips; two sons, Walter (Anne) and Matthew, both of Green Bay; one daughter, Cindy (Gary) Burnett, Minocqua; three brothers, Richard (Char), Plover, Donald (Kathy), River Falls, and Michael (Jody), Green Bay; one sister-in-law, Janice (Larry) Schleusner, Edgerton; and four grandsons.
