Richard P. Carey, 73, Amherst, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst, with the Rev. Gretchen Anderson officiating. Interment and military honors will be held at a later date in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
A memorial has been established in his memory.

Mr. Carey was born March 24, 1940, in Iola, a son of the late Russell and Edna (Louison) Carey.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was married to Melba Blevins April 13, 1968, at Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst.
He worked as a nursing assistant at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King for 38 years.
He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst. He was also a member of the Selma Voight American Legion Post 22 in Amherst and the Tomorrow River Conservation Club.
Survivors include his wife, Melba; one brother, Wayne (Linda), Amherst; one sister-in-law, Carol (Robert) Lea, Amherst; nieces; and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Dale.
