In their first trip to the Elite Eight, the 19th-ranked Pointers knocked off host school and second-ranked Hope College (Mich.) (32-3) 3-0 in Holland, Mich., Thursday, Nov. 21, to advance to the Final Four.
With a trip to the National Championship Game on the line the following night, UWSP lost 26-24 in the first set to third-ranked California Lutheran (35-2) and was unable to recover, as it fell 3-0 to snap a 24-match win streak and have its season come to a close with a 35-5 record.
“It’s more than I can ask for, to take it this far,” said senior Allison Davis. “Our team did awesome and I’m really happy with how I’m ending my senior year.”
“To me, it still is almost surreal,” said first-year UWSP volleyball head coach Abbey Sutherland of the team’s run. “The loss on Friday stings, but when you look back at everything that we accomplished, it’s pretty amazing.”
