Four partners in The Portage County Gazette used space in last week’s issue remembering another partner and mentor, George Rogers, who died of a heart attack on Monday, Nov. 4. The quartet included Gene Kemmeter, Bill Berry, Nick Schultz and me.
We’ve received many compliments about our words of recollection and love for this man. While each of our pieces was different, we all agreed that this humble and truly meek man was a titan in local journalism and a dear friend to all of us.
George’s widow, Jeanette, honored Bill and me by asking us to do readings at George’s FuneralMass. The passages she and her children, Jim and Jane, chose would have pleased George – both were short and to the point – just like George’s work – and with a little divine guidance, George might have written them himself.
