Lettie M. Aker, 87, Iola, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until the service.
Mrs. Aker was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Pueblo, Colo., a daughter of the late William H. Shipman and Philomena M. Gallo. She attended schools in Pueblo, Colo. before her family moved to Kenosha in 1942.
She was married to Charles D Summers in Waukegan, Ill., in 1946. They were later divorced.
She was married to Thomas H. O’Brien in 1968 in Kenosha. They were later divorced.
She was married to Bernard R. Aker in 1968 in Iola. He died in July 2009.
She owned and worked in restaurants in earlier years and later worked 25 as assistant manager at the St. Vincent de Paul Store in Kenosha.
When she and husband Tom moved to Iola in 1977, she opened and operated a second-hand store in Rosholt and then in Iola before retiring about 1983.
She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. She was president of Iola’s Veterans Of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary before it disbanded several years ago.
Survivors include two daughters, Catherine M. Jackson (Ron Colby) Iola, and Lorraine A. Summers, Kenosha; one daughter-in-law, Deanna Summers, Kenosha; one son-in-law, Pete Tucker, Iola; eight grandchildren, James, John, Janet, Jackie, Charlene, Shawn, Margo and Bridget; 18 eighteen great-grandchildren; and three great- great grandchildren
She was also preceded in death by one son, Charles W. Summers; one daughter, Sharon L. Tucker; one brother, William J. Shipman; and one great-grandson.
