Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield, with the Rev. Eric L. Hambrock officiating. Burial will be in FishLakeCemetery in Hancock.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, and from 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, until the service.
Mr. Schafer was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Joliet, Ill., a son of the late William and Louise (Engelbrecht) Schafer.
He was married to Doris M. Brown March 4, 1966. She died March 13, 2012.
Survivors include 15 children, Beverly (Albert) Dachel, Brenda Haferman, Rich (Tina) Schafer, JoAnn Mundinac, Barbara (Robert Scott) Schafer, Glen Schafer, Ronald (Denise Schafer, all of Almond, Bill (Sandy) Schafer, Hancock, Mike (Laurie) Schafer, Waupun, Lynn (Tony Shirley) Schafer and Rose (Bob) Fluech, both of Tonica, Ill., Marlene Martens, Iola, Betty (Steve) Davis, Hudson, Fla., Don (Deb) Schafer, North Las Vegas, Nev., and Bob (Sheila) Schafer, Houston, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Echoff, Antioch, Tenn.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Wilson and Ceil Schafer; and four brothers, William, Earl, Clifford and Edward.
