Shirley Mae Gavinski, 83, Stevens Point, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, following an illness for the past year.
Services are pending at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plover.

Pisarski Community Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Plover is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Gavinski was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Crystal Fall, Mich., a daughter of the late Karl Edward West and Tyyne Amalia (Hill) West. She attended local schools and graduated from Crystal Falls High School in 1937.
Following graduation she moved to the Milwaukee area and worked at Stefke Freight.
She was married to Peter Gavinski on January 18, 1952. He preceded her in death.
She continued her career in the Stevens Point area, working as a medical transcriptionist at St. Michael’s Hospital before working at Klasinski Clinic for more than 20 years until her retirement.
With her husband, she also opened and operated Plover Beer and Liquor Store in the 1960s.
In retirement she was active as a volunteer at St. Michael’s, Senior Olympics and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Thomas (Mary), Greenfield; and three grandchildren, Andrew, Connecticut, Katherine, Iowa, and Martha, Ohio.
She was also preceded in death by one son, James; and one brother, Neil.
