The WIAA football playoff pairings were announced Saturday, Oct. 19, and each of the four area high school teams that advanced to the postseason will be in action Friday, Oct. 25.
Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) (5-4, 3-4) was one of seven teams in the state to receive a playoff bid with a sub-.500 conference record. The seventh-seeded Panthers will play at second-seeded and eighth-ranked Appleton North (8-1, 6-1) in a Division 1 Level 1 Playoff Game at 7 p.m. Friday.
Third-seeded and sixth-ranked Amherst (8-1, 6-1), the defending Division 5 State Champion, will host sixth-seeded and ninth-ranked Colby (8-1, 6-1) in a Division 5 Level 1 Playoff Game at 7 p.m. Friday. Last season the Falcons beat Colby 34-6 in the State Semifinals at Community Stadium at Goerke Field.
Rosholt (7-2, 5-0) will be on the road for its Division 6 Level 1 Playoff Game, as the fifth-seeded Hornets will travel roughly four hours northwest to face fourth-seeded and ninth-ranked Webster (8-1, 5-1) at 7 p.m. Friday.
Almond-Bancroft (7-2, 4-1) will be at home for its Division 7 Level 1 Playoff Game, as the third-seeded Eagles will host sixth-seeded Cambria-Friesland (5-4, 4-2) at 7 p.m. Friday. The two teams met in Week 3 of the regular season in Almond, where the Eagles won 54-22 Sept. 6.
