Welcome to Stevens Point, was what it should have said. Unfortunately, the yellow envelope read, “Parking ticket,” in all capital letters and a very bold font.
For myself, in my first week as the new managing editor of The Portage County Gazette, it was an unexpected realization —I don’t know much about the inner workings of Stevens Point.
For instance, where should this newcomer park?
I have settled into the newly repaved Shopko parking lot — I hope that is the right place.
From a newcomer’s perspective, the downtown area, while beautiful and self-sustaining, is cumbersome to some. Two-hour parking is prevalent but what if I need to park longer?
I will figure this out; I’ll give it a week or so. Chalk it up to being the new guy at the paper.
