Swimming against competitors from throughout the country, Sadie won the Bronze Medal in the 50-yard freestyle in her first race at the State Games of America in Hershey-Harrisburg, Pa., Aug. 1-2.
The soon-to-be fifth-grader at Bannach Elementary School followed by winning three Gold Medals as an individual, and added two more Silver Medals in a pair of relay events, as she came back from the games with a total of six medals.
“It was pretty exciting,” said Sadie. “I was a bit nervous at first, but then I had a lot of fun and I met a lot of new friends.
“I just had a blast,” said Sadie.
“When we found out she qualified at the national level, we really didn’t have an expectation that she was going to go in and do as well as she did,” said her mother, Tracy. “We just thought it was an honor to be able to go and represent Wisconsin.
“And then when she went and excelled, we were shocked,” said Tracy.
