No matter how long you’ve been gardening, there’s always more to learn. Here are a few nuggets of knowledge from the 16th annual Garden Parade:
Perennials that tend to spread fast and far are kept in check by pairing them with similarly aggressive perennials at the Patt Loecher property, 1000 N. Wilshire Drive. Orange daylilies, blue bellflowers and the yellow flowers of firecracker lysimachia are good companions for the large backyard garden.
All gardeners need space to work and store equipment and tools. Loecher’s cleverly screened storage area consists of a fence made to look like a series of doors. Door knobs and a mail slot do the trick. This was just one fun feature. Succulents planted in rocks, seashells and a toolbox were others.
