Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, with the Rev. Jim Altman officiating. Entombment will be at Forest Hill Mausoleum in Wisconsin Rapids.
Visitation was at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids Monday and at the church Tuesday.
Mr. Kryshak was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Stevens Point, a son of the late John and Johanna (Hintz) Kryshak. He graduated from St. Peter Elementary School and P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point.
He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) until the outbreak of World War II, at which time he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Air Corps. While based primarily aboard the aircraft USS Enterprise, he achieved the rank of lieutenant and saw extensive combat on the Pacific Theatre of operations as a night fighter pilot. He received three Distinguished Flying Crosses and three Air Medals for “heroism or extraordinary achievement” in aerial combat, including participation in the Formosa, Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Japanese home island campaigns.
Following the war he completed his education at UW-Madison, graduating in 1948 with a degree in civil engineering and gaining certification with the state of Wisconsin as a professional engineer.
He was married to Violette Meshak on Nov. 24, 1949, and settled in Wisconsin Rapids.
During his 40-year career as a civil engineer at Consolidated Papers Inc., he became senior civil engineer in 1952, construction superintendent in 1956 and was ultimately promoted to chief civil and structural engineer. He oversaw construction of the Castle Rock and Petenwell dams and flowages, as well as every major expansion and new construction for Consolidated.
He also served for many years on the city of Wisconsin Rapids Board of Building Appeals.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mary Beth (Ben) Sande, Mukwonago; two sons, Dr. Edward J. (Nanci), Grand Rapids, Mich., and Robert V. (Karla), Wisconsin Rapids; and eight grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Joseph; and three sisters, Irene, Ramona and Marie.
