A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Masonic Lodge, 1578 Strongs Ave., Stevens Point.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

Mr. Travis was born Dec. 28, 1918, in Mobridge, S.D., a son of the late LeRoy and Lucinda (Charles) Travis. He and his brother, Roland, were raised by his mother and grandmother after his father died in February 1920. He grew up in Mobridge.
In his youth, he worked at Truax and Travis grocery store and his uncle’s hardware store. He traveled to Kiel, Wis., for a summer to work on his uncle’s farm.
After high school he became a route salesman for Eddy’s Bakery.
He was married to Doris E. Hiatt on April 12, 1941. She preceded him in death.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. While stationed in California, he was a member of the Army Air Corps basketball team that played a game against the Harlem Globetrotters and the inmates at San Quentin prison.
After his discharge he managed Gamer’s restaurant in Helena, Mont. He later joined the Swift & Company. After that he worked for the Piggly Wiggly Corp., eventually retiring as a regional vice president in 1983. He was instrumental in the expansion of Piggly Wiggly grocery stores in the Midwest.
Mr. Travis opened two businesses in the Stevens Point area, “The Laundry” (1980) and “Spirits of Plover“(1983). He was an original investor in The Pineries Bank, where he was known as the “Grounds Keeper.” Each morning he would empty the coffee grounds, make new coffee and visit with the customers.
He was a life member of the Evergreen chapter of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include two sons, Larry (Grace) and James; and four grandchildren, Lisa (Jeff) Bishop, Laurie (Jeff) Jordan, Kristen (Mark) Schoenbrunn and David (Denise) Larsen; one niece, Dr. Mary Ann Travis; and four great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Susan E. Larsen; and one brother, Roland Travis.
