Division Street was opened for business this past weekend after a few weeks of repairs and replacements on the pipes than run beneath it. I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss the quiet. I was worried I would get too used to the quiet. It was really kind of surreal while the road was closed, and I tried to embrace that surrealness at every opportunity.
After the city initially closed the road, it was amusing to watch disoriented drivers who had apparently missed the “Road Closed” signs and were not familiar with the streets, try to find an alternative route when they wanted to go west and the only roads available headed east.
People will do some very strange things in a surreal situation, and it’s been an entertaining time for myself and my neighbors. Especially the morning the large semi truck rolled past my house at a fair rate of speed. I held my breath and waited for either the screech of brakes or the sound of a lot of metal hitting a very big hole in the road.
