This year’s celebration will include free entertainment, fireworks and lots of food and drink supplied by local restaurants and vendors. The Fourth of July festivities are sponsored by Miller Lite, the Stevens Point Brewery and Skyward Inc.
The festivities will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday with the annual Carp Classic fishing contest at the deck of the Pfiffner Building with registration. Carp fishers have until 4 p.m. to return to the Pfiffner Building for weigh-in to determine the winners in youth and adult categories.
While not on the park grounds, the annual Stevens Point Fourth of July Parade will be held on Main Street in the downtown area, beginning at noon.
Music by Daphni will launch the entertainment on the Mainstage at 1:30 p.m., followed by The Dunwells acoustic rock group from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wrapping up Thursday’s music will be the ’80s tribute band Hairball from 9:30 to 11 p.m.
Hairball is a tribute band in that they take recreating the ’80s experience seriously. The Minnesota-based band not only plays music from such groups as KISS, Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, AC/DC and Poison but they impersonate the hard-rock icons as well.
