James P. Achten, 94, King, formerly of Scandinavia and Kaukauna and the father of an Amherst Junction woman, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.
A memorial service will be held in July.

Mr. Achten was born April 14, 1919, in West De Pere, a son of the late Jake and Eva (Hibbard ) Achten.
He was married to Laura Green on Oct. 8, 1942. She died on Jan. 19, 2013.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from July 25, 1941, to Dec. 8, 1945.
He was employed by the city of Kaukauna for 19 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca.
He is survived by three sons, Randy (Judy), Dallas, Texas, Terry (Barb), Waupaca, and Mike, Belleville; two daughters, Mary (Paul) Dahlen, Amherst Junction, and Renee (Rich Bickle Jr.) Achten, Madison; three sisters, Lucille (Dick) Baeten, Townsend, Margarite DeVoss, De Pere, and Mary (Merle) Durpinghouse, Two Rivers; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Al, Bob, Norb, Jake, John and Bernie; and one sister, Edith.
